Pitmaster’s Dinner at Lockhart’s BBQ

I’m rushing to get all these “special event” food posts out before they’re past their prime and the world forgets that it even happened. Especially late will be the Blue Point Tap Takeover at Ashley’s Westland post, which happened about 2 or 3 weeks ago – C’est La Vie.

John contacted me about 2 weeks ago about a Pitmaster’s Dinner in Royal Oak at Lockhart’s BBQ that was featuring Arcadia Ales. At first I was a little hesitant to attend, but I eventually gave in to the promise of great food, great beer, and great company – I am so glad that I did. The dinner was $50.00 a person but it was well worth it, and I even have some leftovers that I will devour tonight for dinner. The dinner was 4 courses each with a pairing of beer. Arcadia’s beers tend to be extremely bold and flavorful, and the ones that were picked also were fairly high in alcohol content. Lockhart’s  has these dinners about once every 6-8 weeks and each one is given a theme. The selection of meat for the dishes for this particular occasion was shank. Even as we first arrived I knew we were going to have a great meal.

Ashley’s Lobsterfest

There are only 10 more days left in June! It’s crazy how fast this month has gone by. I am moving to a new residence on July 1st. Luckily, or unluckily if you look at it that way, my apartment lease overlaps with the new place so I’ll be less pressured to move out in a short amount of time. The unfortunate part being that I have to pay both rents at once, but I think I’ll survive. Though if any of my friends are reading this, don’t expect me to be going out and partying with you guys anytime soon. I was actually talking to Dante about it last night, I think we’ll be having more cook-ins or -outs as you see fit and instead of going out and spending a ton of money consider coming and bringing a dish or helping to create a dish. It’ll be fun!

There actually isn’t too much to say in this post, as all that we did was hang out, eat delicious lobster, drink beer, and hang out with the Allies so enjoy the pictures!

Last day in Carlsbad

So the it only takes me like 10-20 minutes to write these posts, and then another 40-50 to put up the pictures and format them in a way I feel is presentable. Luckily, this post doesn’t have too many pictures, but mostly that’s because Katnip and I spent a lot of the morning/early afternoon at the beach where we were too busy enjoying ourselves to take pictures. In the evening we went to Besta-Wan Pizza house with Mary & her boyfriend Eric, then finished the day with the 3 Bs – Beach, Beer, and Buddies.

Vacationing, without the parental units.

So I was pondering how to properly divide up the blog posts for this trip, and I think the only thing I’ve really settled on is having a final post on Monday that has as many pictures as I care to upload and put up as a slideshow/gallery. I think the problem is that I’ve only been here 1 and a half days, and I’ve taken…411 pictures. That poses a problem for what to add into each blog post. Even if I divide the posts by day, the sheer number of pictures is just ridiculous. Maybe a gallery post for each day too? It’s really quite a conundrum. I think putting up SOME pictures from each day and just leaving you with mouths watering for more is the best way to do it. Even then I’ve only been able to pick like 40 pictures. I guess we’ll see how this turns out. I may have to be more selective with my picture picking. That way you have something to look forward to on Monday/Tuesday. Let us start from the beginning shall we?

They come and they go

Friends ebb and flow as we go through life. This is a pretty quickly learned lesson for most people; especially after college. I had the pleasure of meeting our friend Jimmy as I moved to my new apartment August 2011. During the great flood of September ’11 our half of the apartment met and got to know each other in Will’s apartment as we drank Leinenkugel’s Berry Weiss. The rest is history.
