Movies a plenty

Not much to show this week. I decided to update my blog on Wednesdays instead. It gives me a little more time to organize pictures and thoughts in the likely event that I am busy well into the evening on Sundays.

This past week was a pretty relaxing week. We saw two movies: Life & Ghost in the Shell.

Life we saw Sunday morning to take advantage of the matinee prices. Ian and Pat joined me for the excursion. It was entertaining for sure and definitely had good atmosphere. Tense and suspenseful, but I couldn’t help but think it suffered a little bit from an idiot plot. I guess it’s hard to really envision how people will act in the circumstances set forth in the movie. But I couldn’t help but think, this movie wouldn’t happen if people weren’t stupid about some of the things they did. I recommend checking it out if you’re looking for a thriller set in space.

Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite anime series. The original movie I saw many years ago, but Stand Alone Complex is top three on my list of favorite animes. I also am a big fan of Scarlett Johansson so I was very excited to see this movie. They did a really great job of adapting it to live-action. There were a lot of scenes that were recreated Shot for shot and I was ecstatic. They of course had to change some things to make the movie work better for live-action vs animation, but overall I think they did a great job. As always, it’s important to be able to separate source material from adaptations.

I do try to cherish the mundane weeks I have as things become increasingly busy. The coming weeks are only bound to get more hectic until August.
