It has probably been a year now since I started taking my blog a little more seriously and I can trace that moment back to last year’s Cask Fest. And so it’s about that time of year when another Cask Fest rolled around, this past Saturday on May 4th in fact! This year was even bigger and better than the last. There were 30+ beers, and with only 12 tokens, my friends and I were tasting each other’s beers to get the largest tasting we could. I would have to say my favorite was the sour from Arbor Brewing Company, Sodibo. Brewery Vivant’s Big Red Coq was also delicious. Though what I spent my extra coins on ended up being Blue Point’s Hoptical Illusion. I wish Arcadia had brought another firkin of Cereal Killer; that stuff was amazingly delicious and alcoholic.Read more "2013 Cask Fest"
So on Monday I got a tweet from Lockhart’s BBQ inviting me to come take pictures and have a tasting of their new menu item – Smoked Suckling Pig. Unfortunately it was at 3 PM, right in the middle of the work day. I headed into work early on Tuesday, hoping to buy some extra time for lunch as I would have had to drive 34 min to get to Royal Oak. Lockhart’s ended up tweeting me that they were running late, so that helped a bit as it pushed my “lunch” closer to the end of the work day. It was a beautiful day out though, so it was a nice drive over there. I parked at John’s apartment, and since he was a regular there I didn’t think they would mind too much if I brought him; plus he let me park at his place so we could walk over.Read more "Lockhart’s New Menu"
Lockhart’s 6th Pitmaster’s dinner featured beef as the theme. Never have I ever had such a delicious beef rib. Well I haven’t had beef rib before, but as ribs and meat goes, it was bliss. Take a look at all the pictures and stop by Lockhart’s BBQ in Royal Oak to whet your appetite.Read more "Lockhart’s BBQ Pitmaster’s Dinner: Beef • March 19th, 2013"
Restaurant week is in full swing at Royal Oak. My cousin Ellen is back in town for her spring break so we went to D’Amato’s and plan on going to Black Pearl during the week. I ordered some new toys for myself, and am adding a post for Thursdays that involve me singing. Feel free to buy some ear plugs!Read more "Royal Oak Restaurant Week"
Well I’m back. I know a few people have been waiting for this post so I managed to cobble something together for everyone. All it took to get me writing again was a delicious meal planned by head chef Scott at Lockhart’s BBQ. John informed me a few weeks back that Lockhart’s was once again having a Pitmaster’s Dinner – of course I was in. The theme for this round was Wild Game with Frankenmuth Brewery providing the libations. This time the tickets were $75 a person, slightly more than last time, but definitely worth the experience and the food. I even managed to convince Latonya and Sarah to come out.Read more "Lockhart’s BBQ Pitmaster’s Dinner: Wild Game & Frankenmuth Brewery"
