This past Saturday marked the unofficial beginning of my once a month Board Game day. My coworker had told me about a board game night she had about a year ago, and since then I’ve toyed with the idea in my head. It wasn’t really until Pat and I started playing more and more board games that I revisited this idea for real.
This past weekend was kind of a test run. Pat owns upwards of 30 board games, and so he has a good variety to choose from. Between the two of us, we have a pretty good variety and the basement is pretty well setup for gaming. Will and Dante came over, and we played a LOT of games. Probably next time we may focus on multiple rounds of the same game instead of switching between them so fast. Although with more people coming, it may be an interesting mix of spectating and multiple games going at once! The possibilities are finite but numerous.
We played the following games over 18 hours on Saturday: Ascension, Quarriors, Dominion, Netrunner, Space Alert, Android, 7 Wonders, Magic: the Gathering.
I wish I had gotten more pictures, but was too enthralled in the games we were playing and the company I had. I had a lot of fun, and I hope August will be successful as well.
We also stopped by the hobby shop where Pat picked up a new game called Space Alert, which is insane. It’s very fun and played in real-time. I spent some money on the final expansion for Dominion, and a box of the M14 Core Set of magic. I managed to pick up some fun/interesting cards that I am going to make some decks around.
On Sunday, before he left, Pat helped me grab a grill and an armchair that my friend was giving me before she moved on to greener pastures in Miami. After arriving and locating the items, I realized I had no tools in case I had to disassemble anything. What followed, was an hour long game of real-world Tetris before we finagled the two large objects into the back of my Aztec, along with 2 tanks of propane. We even managed to make it so the door would close. We were very pleased. Who said video games never taught us anything?
I look forward to getting to use the grill soon, and to relax in my new comfy leather armchair. Thanks again Katie!
